The BMW B58B30 is a 3.0L inline-six, single-turbo, twin-scroll gasoline engine introduced by BMW in 2015. It serves as the flagship model within BMW’s modular engine family (B38/B48/B58, 500cc per cylinder architecture) and was developed to replace the previous-generation N55 series.
As part of the technical evolution to meet China VI (China VIa / China VIb) and Euro 6 (Euro 6d-TEMP / Euro 6d) emissions standards, BMW introduced the B58TU (Technical Update 1, i.e., B58B30C / B58B30D) in 2018, which is widely used in G-generation chassis models:
Closed-Deck Architecture: Unlike the N55’s open-deck design, the B58 features an ultra-high-strength aluminum alloy closed-deck block with cast-iron cylinder liners, capable of withstanding extremely high boost pressures and knock thresholds, significantly enhancing its tuning potential and durability.
China VI/Euro 6 Technical Upgrades (B58TU1):
Increased Fuel Injection Pressure: Fuel supply pressure has been raised from 200 bar to 350 bar, enabling finer atomization and extremely low particulate emissions, thereby natively meeting China VIb PN emission limits.
Thermal Management and Timing Chain Improvements: Split Cooling technology has been adopted, and the timing chain system has been simplified and optimized from the earlier dual-chain design to a single-chain structure, reducing mechanical friction loss.
4WD (xDrive) Exclusive Design: The short block/bedplate, designed for the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, features clearance structures for either the drive shaft to pass through or the front differential to be mounted, ensuring efficient power transmission.
